About
What We’re All About
The San Diego Comms & Storytelling Network is an emerging community of storytellers, writers, designers, creatives, and marketers working in San Diego County’s social justice and climate action space.
Our goal is to learn from each other and build a culture of care in media and communications as we address critical issues and shape the narrative of our home.
How We Got Started
As of Summer 2023, the network is still very new — a project spearheaded by Ally Senturk (San Diego Coastkeeper), Carmela Prudencio (Pacific Arts Movement), Margaret Chiu (San Diego Food System Alliance), mica miragliotta (County of San Diego), and Zoe Luiz (Catalyst of San Diego and Imperial Counties).
As media & comms leaders working on small teams and supporting complex organizations doing important work, we knew we could benefit from connecting with each other and working more collectively. We’re certain there are many more of you out there in similar positions — and that having a common space to meet, foster collaboration, share skills, and encourage dialogue would be valuable for all.
Here’s the rough, initial brainstorm that Zoe, Carmela, Ally, mica, and Margaret worked on together to envision what this network could be. We’re steadily working on bringing this all to life, and looking to you for more guidance and inspiration!
Where Do We Go From Here?
We are looking to the rest of our community of San Diego County-based storytellers, creatives, and problem-solvers working in the public sector and social impact space to help co-create the identity of this emerging community.
What resources can we create and share together, that would be helpful in your work?
How can we use a collective space like this to address critical issues in our region?
What are the common challenges we experience as media and comms leaders in the public sector and social impact space? How can we help each other heal from and address these?
And, help us with the brass tacks! What should we name this community? How often and where should we meet?
Come As You Are
We’re learning as we go! At this point, what we do know is that we want this to be an inclusive and welcoming space. We welcome you to show up as your whole self — not just your ‘work self’ or ‘professional self.’ We’ve just started a Slack Community and are beginning to host in-person events. Come as you are!
